Very Vintage Vogue in Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight and Concord Crush

I couldn't face another pinky, plumy, rosey coloured card today ...
so I shall show you a card that we made at a workshop recently.
We splashed out in Marina Mist, Concord Crush and Daffodil Delight.
Many of us shy away from yellows (especially the bright ones), yet blue and purple stand opposite yellow in the colour chart. And, there was that gorgeous roll of satin ribbon and the Daffodil delight coloured buttons, almost unused until now.
The stampset is vintage vogue.
The background is stamped with the Very Vintage wheel.
My second version of this card has a Daffodil Delight Taffeta bow. The leaves are punched from the large bird  builder punch and to contrast the pretty button, we put it on a Boho Blossom punch flower and finished with a rhinestone jewell.

Good bye Kiwi Kiss (friend to friend)

Kiwi kiss has been a favourite of mine and sadly it will be one of the colours going at the end of this week.
It is brighter than Old Olive and goes great with Riding hood Red for Christmas cards.
So today I celebrated with a farewell to Kiwi kiss with some patterned paper behind this Pendant Note Card.
This is the second card I have made using the kraft coloured Pendant notes.
The centre is die cut so you can press the negative pieces out and place your patterned paper in behind it.
I have used kiwi kiss patterned paper behind and added a kiwi kiss bow to the front held with a clear rhinestone brad.
This kraft cardstock just cries out vintage to me... so I broke out the Vintage vogue stampset for the flowers and vines around the edge.
To accentuate the flower I have layered it with Pacific point patterned paper cut out with the wonderful Boho Blossom punch held with a basic black brad.
Friend to friend sentiment is from teeny tiny sentiments punched with the word window punch.
So we say good bye to Kiwi Kiss and clear the shelves as we eagerly anticipate a new in colour range next week.

117693 Very Vintage Jumbo Stampin' Around Wheel

My card is made from the very popular Vintage Vogue stamp set ( I think it was overshadowed last month only because there was that Two step stamping promotion sale last month).
My favourite stampset for the month of July was the Vintage Vogue and the vintage vogue wheel!
I am loving the Pale Plum and Rich Razzleberry colours together.
This Razzleberry spotted ribbon (and the melon mambo one aswell) will expire at the end of this month along with the pale plum ink and cardstock so enjoy it while it lasts... I am.
Thanks to Linda for the layout of this card... you can see Linda Higgins' cards using this set in the July edition of Australian cards and papercraft magezine.

Joy fold card in Cottage wall paper

I nearly forgot to show you the latest Joy-fold card we made last week. It was fun to make especially choosing the papers, stamps and colours to match. It is actually easier to make three at once I think, because you can just replicate all the pieces and stamp them assembly line style.
It is made with Pale plum and Rich Razzleberry Cardstock.
With the gorgeous Cottage wall Designer Series patterned paper that I love. I love the colours: Rich razzleberrry, orchid opulence and Old olive with that crisp white.
Here's how it opens ... we stamped the front panel with the always beautiful Vintage Vogue flower stamp... rock and rolled in pale plum and Razzleberry ink.  With a touch of the old olive vine and leaves curling across for that vintage look.
Don't these colours just look so pretty together?
You could make a card front just with that much and a piece of ribbon.
But look there's more....
It opens up with that small flap inside to show another vintage vogue flower and happy birthday message.
Back to that little flip out card inside ... it says: life happens, love helps.
Card recipe:
Stampsets: Vintage Vogue, teeny tiny sentiments.
Ink: Old olive, Rich Razzleberry, Pale plum.
Cardstock: Whisper white, pale plum, Rich Razzleberry.
Designer series Paper: Cottage Wall ( Autumn winter mini catalogue only available until 31 August).
Accessories: Circle Rhinestone brad, silver brad
Tools: Circle scallop punch, small and large Circle punches. Mat pack and dimensionals.

The Elite Challenge Sketch 35

Every month the Elite challengers set a stampset, colour and sketch challenge for the team to play with.
Today is the last day of the month so I have just squeezed this one in for July.
The sketch is from page 34 in the Autumn/Winter mini catalogue:
The small blue and green thank you card with the flower in the left hand corner.
This is my take on it -
I love a sketch challenge. You can choose your own colours and your favourite stampset and interpret the design all yourself. Usually if you choose a gorgous stampset like this Vintage Vogue one, it all falls into place quite simply.
The main flower is rock and rolled in pale plum and Rich Razzleberry ink.
The centre brad is from the circle ice rhinestone pack.
It is actually a pale purple colour, but difficult to see in this pic, I'm afraid.
So what is the Recipe for a card like this?
One stampset: Vintage Vogue
Three colour inks: Rich razzleberry, Pale Plum, and Old Olive.
Three cardstocks: melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry and white.
A Rhinestone brad, a white singo gel pen (for the centres of those background flowers) and the distressing tool from the cutter kit. (for the top edge of the razzleberry layer).

I call this Bag Mambo with bling

My friend Sophie came to visit last Friday and we made another of these handbag cards. This one is quite striking in Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberrry, white and green galore.
The bag is made from a Top note die that I cut out with my Big shot machine.
I love how it has the stitching around the edges.
The white layer is textured using the polka dot embossing folder.
The bag handle is a piece of Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon.
And, the clasp is made from two of the Boho Blossom punch flowers with a square fire brad in the centre for just a bit of bling.
We stamped the Vintage vogue flower randomly over the top note  in Rich razzleberry ink.
The sentiment says "Wish Big" and is from the short and sweet stampset.
Enjoy!!!

Top note handbag on a card

This is another of the workshop cards we made only a week or so ago... its a top note handbag.
It is so easy to make this card with patterned paper (for the background layer) and stamping for the bag pattern.
We started with a top note cut with the Big shot machine in whisper white and then Folded it in half to make the purse. To make the purse stand out from the background we sponged the edges in rich razzleberry ink.
The fun part is always the stamping! And for this bag we stamped the vintage vogue flowers in a range of purples: rich razzleberry, pale plum, and orchid opulence. We varied the colours of the flowers using a technique of rock and rolling the rubbber in two inks. The greenery is also from Vintage Vogue and is stamped in Old Olive ink, it would look just as nice in mellow moss (a little softer green).
The clasp on the purse flap is made with a punched flower with a rhinestone brad in the centre.
We used the Boho Blossoms punch for the purple flower.
The purse can be made without the patterned paper of course... thats the whole idea of stamping, you can make your own patterned paper just by using a selection of matching stamps on cardstock.
The handle is simply a piece of ribbon tucked in under the top of the bag.
With a sentiment punched out using the word window punch.
Wouldn't any girlfriend love a topnote handbag card?

Shelli's vintage cards...

I really should get a life ... if I am not sick in bed, I am at school, or I'm making cards, or on the computer blogging, looking and thinking about cards.
Its an obsession, no no I'd prefer to call it a kind of passion!!!
So, as I am going away this weekend for a conference (with volunteers not stampers, this time), I thought I'd leave you some gorgous vintage cards made by the talented Shelli Gardner.
I love what she has done with the "Embrace life" stampset, a bit of "En francais" background stamping, a bit of newsprint and some twill.
She has used a flower from the pretties kit and a clear Rhinestone brad on this one. The flourish underneath is a stamp from "frames with a flourish" and the word friends is from "tiny tags" stampset.

This little gift card (above) is done with the Vintage Vogue set and some torn and sanded patterned paper.

Look at these cute cards: the one on the right is spritzed with water before and after stamping the flower, then different blue and kiwi kiss dragon flies are stamped over the top.
This stampset is a hostess only set: organic grace - used this way it looks less botanical and much more watercoloured in effect.
Shelli's vintage style is all about simplicity, tearing, layering and using texture.
What I learnt from her session was that vintage can be anything you want.
I'll show you my vintage cards early next week, see you then.

Convention Part 4 - Card ideas on display

One of the best of many things about Convention are the demonstrations of cards and projects up on stage.
The demonstrations are mainly done by Stampin up staff :
On Friday morning Shannon West gave us a demo on using the Circle Scissor Plus tool.
She showed us 12 amazing cards to make using circles of cardstock.
There  was a spiral star card and this gorgous heart card that folds into its own envelope. Lolly bag toppers, Princess tiaras, Lady Beetle cards, Foot balls, Male shirt and tie cards and her December circle card had a half circle pocket to hold a CD.
I might have to make this one to send people photos on CDs in.
She also made this really simple punched bird card which I think she was giving out as swaps.
Isnt it perfect in Orchid opulence and Rich Razzleberry.
Bonnie Thurber is just an amazing presenter:
She showed us how to tie a neat knot/bow with ribbon.
She calls it her lazy sister knot - I'll explain later.

Bonnie showed us how to make these gorgous masked Tea cup cards and a little box to put them in. Plus demoed the new kraft cardstock cards (forgotten their name) they are similar to the fresh cut notes we still have. There in the picture above and a cute little bag to put them in too.
Then we got to see the new Big Shot machine in action with the histerically funny Pam Morgan.
She made some gorgous items. Did you know you can cut fabric with this tool?
You can cut up to 8 pieces of fabric at a time. It will cut through nearly anything cardstock and fabric related.
She demoed how to make the Plexi glass sandwhich ... which makes the yummiest projects.
Imagine even quilters will be able to get in on the act and cut out designs....
Can you see this tool on your sewing or crafting table?
My absolute favourite demonstration though was Shelli Gardner's.
She has a gorgous Vintage style and made a heap of projects up on stage.
Then afterwards they are placed up on the display boards outside for everyone to share.
You can click on any of these pictures to enlarge the photo for a closer look.
Enjoy every Moment!!!

I am packing my bag...

I am packing a few of my favourite crafting tools and my good shoes because tomorrow is the Stampin' Up Convention. We are spending two days at Darling Harbour stamping, learning and celebrating another year of stampin' up in Australia.
I am taking my camera, phone and the barest of essentials so I can come home fully laden up with new ideas and excitement for projects to share with you. You can book a workshop with me as soon as I get back if you like and get the latest ideas from the Stampin' up team. We usually get a brand new stampset in our registration satchel, free gifts, lots of surprises and door prizes.
Please, come back and check my blog on Monday, or maybe Tuesday ('cause I might have to sleep off the excitement for a day or so) before I upload some gorgous photos of what we did.
Enjoy!!!

Vintage Vogue in soft suede

Another team challenge is up from the Inksomniacs - the challenge for May is to use only two colours (usually colours means you can add a neutral but not this time)
- so for me it is a one "colour" and one "neutral" challenge.
I quite like this challenge - one ink pad, and two different cardstocks with embellishments:
This ribbon is so gorgous to work with. It is thicker and stiffer than other grosgrains so it ties a good neat bow. This one isn't actually tied - I have looped it around and pinned it to the topnote with a clear Rhinestone brad through the centre of a stamped vintage flower.
The topnote is stamped with my Very Vintage stampin' around wheel, wheeled on the diagonal so that it doesn't have that up and down striped wallpaper look.
And you will note I have used the crimpy biscuit punch to frame my oval sentiment.
Its real name is the scalloped oval punch but it still looks like a crimpy biscuit!
When ever I use it now I get hungry (Thanks for that Teresa).
AND, its still available to purchase, even though its not in the current mini catalogue.

Then, because I am loving this Polka dot ribbon and late at night I love to get out my Big shot die cutting machine ... its silent (So I dont wake anyone up when I am using it) and I don't need to plug it in.
Its so portable I can take it anywhere, even down on the floor and on the carpet  ...
I have made a little matching velum pillow box.
Card Recipe:
Stampset: Vintage vogue (Clear mount $30.95) and very vintage wheel ($15.95)
Ink: Soft Suede
Cardstock: whisper white and soft suede
Ribbon: Polka dot soft suede ( I still have shares of ribbon in these in-colours if you thought you missed out)
Punches: Teresa's crimpy biscuit ... Scalloped oval ($30.95) large oval ($30.95)
Tools and Accessories: Clear Rhinestone brad, Big shot die cutting machine, top note die,
Pillow box die and the polka dot embossing folder.

Embosslit die "Thanks" card

I am really still just experimenting but I had to show you something simple and easy today. Imagine you have a whole bunch of Thank you cards to send out and are time poor.
How about a die that both cuts (punches) out your words and dry embosses them AT THE SAME TIME!
This card was literally made with scraps of paper. The Rose red cardstock was stuck on to the mellow moss cardstock  after rolling it through the Big shot with the Embosslit "Thanks" that has simultaneously cut and embossed the image onto both pieces. Glue the Rose Red thanks on to the Mellow Moss and you have it.
Behind it I have stamped a frame from Frames with a flourish ... coloured in the leaves and flowers with my Stampin up Markers and for added decoration stamped the edging from Vintage Vogue on to the Melon Mambo cardstock. Run off 20 of those in an afternoon and you're set for any Thank you event.
Enjoy!!!

Friends Vintage Vogue Scrapbook page

No prizes for guessing where I lifted the idea for this page ....
I can hear you flipping through your Autumn Winter mini from here, where have I seen that?
I've used the same squares of Designer Series paper (almost) Four squares of Urban Oasis patterned paper along the bottom on black textured cardstock.
My colours in the photos didn't happen to match the Urban Oasis paper but that didn't phase me, no.
I have rock and rolled the Vintage Vogue flower in baja breeze and rich Razzleberry Ink.
And a second flower in Orchid Opulence to match the flowers and colours in the girl's clothing.
In the centre is a baja breeze button tied with a cardstock thread.
This gorgous "F" for friends is rock and rolled in baja breeze and black ink, then popped up with dimensionals.
Note the kiwi and baja mount to tie it back in with the  papers yet introducing the colours of the photos again. I think it works - a good layout makes up for a lot.
The Top left hand corner is made with the bird on a branch NEW Punch. (XL two-step bird).
Repetition of shapes and colours help the page come together, as a whole.
What's a scrap page with out the date ... I've punched out this shape for the month and year then set it behind the Styled Silver metal frame.
With a final little branch appropriately called "Little Leaves" cut out with my Big Shot machine.
What you need to make this page:
Stampsets: Vintage Vogue, full Calendar.
Ink: Baja Breeze, Stazon Black, Orchid Opulence, Rich Razzle Berry
Cardstock: Whisper white, Basic Black, Kiwi kiss
Designer Series Paper: Urban Oasis
Buttons: Designer Button Bouquet
Ribbon: Kiwi Kiss
Styled Silver brads and frame.
Punches: Designer Label, XL Two step Bird
Big Shot with Stampin' Up Little Leaves Sizzlit die.
