Tuesday night = baby cards!

Do you have a few pregnant mums lurking in your midst?
Friends, work colleagues, cousins, relatives about to have a gorgous bundle of love?
On Tuesday night we set ourselves the challenge to make baby birthday cards. Either their actual birth-day or perhaps a first birthday ...
These are the two designs that we came up with:
The first card features the "Wild about you" girraffe. One of my favourite images.
It is in chocolate chip and Regal rose.
The punch we used to make this cute bow is called the double rectangle punch. It cuts two little squares to thread the ribbon through. You can tie a knot or a neat little bow like the one I've done here. The ribbon is Pretty in pink grosgrain.
The sentiment: Welcome baby is so cute and it is punched out with the Word Window punch.
And layered on to a snipped and trimmed Scallop oval punch - clever or what?
I will show you the other in detail tomorrow. Enjoy!!!

Decorative elements with punches...

Today's card is a CASE of my baby boy card but with a few extra details because you can ...a bit more than you do with boy cards, I suppose.
I've used three different punches as decorative elements.
Can you pick which ones?
I'll apologise for the quality of the photos.  It was night time when I took them, I only had my mobile phone and the dining room light to work with, so all things considered at least you can see the distressed edges,  the tafetta ribbon and pearl flower centre.
Card Recipe:
Stampsets: Wild about You! Teeny tiny sentiments
Cardstock: Pixie Pink, Pretty in Pink, Whisper white
Ink: Pixie Pink, Pretty Pink marker.
Ribbon: White and Pink Tafetta
Punches: 1 3/8" circle and ???

Making Baby cards

This is the baby card I made this week.
I've been using Ballet Blue and Almost amethyst for my baby boy cards ...
Actually how I came to be inspired to make this card was because it was my turn to set the challenge for the Inksomniacs over at Team Linda this month.
As you can guess I have a lot of photos, so a photo inspiration was definitely on the cards...
This photo is a french impressionist print I have on my wall (not far from the computer) Monet's water lilies.

I love the blues and greens and the touch of pink, yellow and red in the detail of the picture. But mostly I just love the impression of water and flowers floating on the surface.
So, these are my sample cards I made:

Nothing to do with water or waterlilies or greens and pinks ...
But the texture is what I like - the velum semi opaque against the almost amethyst and the ruffled tafetta ribbon on the second card (another technique I learned at Convention) kind of inspired by water.
And do the circles count as lily pad shapes?
Where do you get your inspiration?
I did a girl card too ... with punches which I will show you next time.
Enjoy!

Enjoy life, enjoy the little things, enjoy every moment

This is my daughter enjoying a reptile display at a nearby business open day - she certainly enjoys every moment, the little things and the big things. I just couldn't giggle, myself while a diamond python wrapped itself around my neck ... but each to their own. This scrapbooking page just needed an embossed title to compete with the photos my partner took of our angel wrestling with wild animals (That Bindi has a lot to answer for). A fascination with snakes, spiders, lizards and crocodiles comes from her father's side I am certain... Here's my kiwi kiss Wild about you crocodile on the edge of the clear embossed friendly words wheel on pink passion cardstock. If these colours are looking familiar I recently made a card using them for the elite challenges site. (Passionate kisses ...)Jessica says, that her dad didn't get a photo of her kissing the blue tongue lizard ... eeewww!!!
How do you pretty up a reptile page? simple! with pink cardstock (to match her jacket) and frilly border punches with the odd flower scattered across the page.
The journalling is done with my basic grey marker on a silver embossed flower medallian from the same stampset. I have used the corner rounder as I don't have a big enough circle punch to cut that one out. The little white flowers were stamped in clear embossing powder on white cardstock , sponged with kiwi kiss ink and cut out with a small circle punch and raised on dimensionals.
What I used for this scrapbook page:
Stampsets: enjoy every moment, wild about you, friendly word wheel.
Basic black textured cardstock, kiwi kiss and pink passion cardstock. Whisper white.
Ink: Versamark , kiwi kiss and Basic black marker.
Other tools and accessories are: the eyelet border punch, corner rounder, silver brad, kiwi kiss striped ribbon and both clear and silver embossing powders, heat tool.

Onesie Baby card Tutorial.

By request I have posted a tutorial of the Baby card (that has been around for awhile) I first saw it on Yvonne Campbell's website/blog. But the original idea and instructions came from Lauren Meader her much more detailed instructions can be found HERE. She has some great ideas and projects.
Keep in mind that the actual size of the card needs to be 4 1/4″ x 11″.
This is a new format for my tutorials - I am not sure it works as well as the still photos on the blog, not much space on the slide show to give detailed instructions but it's a visual thing...

A couple of Lions for a Happy Birthday card

This "Couple of Lions" card is for a friend's 6 year old son. The lion's heads can turn left and right, a full 360 degrees ... I love an interactive card where the recipient can touch and play with it especially for children's birthday cards.

Just love these lions too from the Wild about You stampset in pumpkin pie and chocolate chip ink. The Cardstock colours are green galore, ballet blue, pumpkin pie and whisper white.

Stampsets: Wild about You and A Little Birthday Cheer.
I also used the stamp-a-ma-jig to get the word stamp straight.
Punches used: Star punch, large oval, Scallop circle and circle punches.

Welcome baby card

What do you do when you want to send a pregnant mother a card but you dont know what sex the baby is yet?

Send an elephant card in turquoise, pink, grey and white.

I have hedged my bets with this one.
I know there is a great big pink elephant there, but the ribbon is blue and the safety pins are blue ... If the elephant was purple or yellow I might get away with it.
Hope it's a girl!
Card stock is vanilla, (love notes and envelopes). Inks: Tempting turquoise, sahara sand, pixie pink. Stamps: Wild about you, short and sweet, floral background (kissed on the elephant).
Ribbon is Tempting turquoise grosgrain.

Interactive view card - wild about you!

After making two mini view cards I have graduated to the full circle size.

The appropriate stampset seemed to be wild about you!

I finally figured out an easier way to determine the position of the stamps on the circle ... I matted them on the card and sponged the circles in almost amethyst to show where to place my stamps then removed the disc from the card to stamp ...

The rest of the card is decorated with purely pomegranate scallop punched circles to make the flower heads. I cut out two scallops then cut an inner circle out of the viewer and then created the bud by feeding the scallop back into the punch, the scrap piece I inked the edges of and placed it over the base. Looks like a little cup shaped bud, I havent seen that done before.
The stems are "Stem sayings" (which I have been wanting to use for ages) and bodacious bouquet was used for the leaves in Always artichoke ink.

And the ribbon is in matching regal rose wide grosgrain ...

Inks used for the animal images: elegant eggplant, taken with teal,

Ballet blue, Bravo burgundy and Pumpkin pie.

Coordinated card, envelope and wrap...

The best bit about stamping your own cards is you can always match your wrapping paper and even have a matching envelope.
I love the wild about you stampset ... elephants, birds, crocodiles, giraffe, lion, penguin and a flower for that added touch ... lots of variety for many different children's cards.
Cardstock: Purely pomegranate, pixie pink and whisper white.
Inks: rose red, lavender lace, almost amethyst, tempting turquoise, elegant eggplant.
Stampsets: wild about you, big deal alphabet, floral background, Birthday best.
I did enjoy cutting out the elephants one by one in all the different colours.
