Idea display boards - random projects

One of the best things about Convention is being able to browse the project boards.
After each general session the projects demonstrated are then put out on display so we can get a closer look in real life. Shelli had a whole board and table for her items. She scrapbooked her new hobby that she shares with Sterling... horse riding.
This clean and square scrapbook page caught my eye. The splatters in the background are a new stampset. I think I can make this with the new stampsets we received in our convention bag.
Here is another very simple but gorgeous Shelli card. Thank you cards look so elegant like this.
A more elaborate gold embossed card that I just love... going to case (copy and share) this layout.
Now the one above is a box calendar/ Diary. Bonnie Thurber showed how she made this one. There is a card for every day of the year...
Loving the Post card stamp ... washi tape and date stamp!
A baby card so smple yet cute with the doily and chevrons.
How cute is this bag? Made with Designer series paper, acetate and washi tape to bind the edges and the handles. The flowers are scrunched, squashi washi tape... (I think someone made that one up).
Then next is another one of Shelli's simple but elegant cards using washi tape stamps and a button with a natural feather for texture and dimension.
How exciting ... this was one of my swaps this year with a duck feather, delicate doily and ribbon attached. I thought a button would have been too much, but maybe not.

Making my convention Make and takes.

On a rainy Sunday in June what better thing to do but makeup my projects from convention.
There are quite a few sneak peek products in here so look away if you don't want to know what's in the new caty. Like new in colours and stamp images. Here's what I made.
A gift box using new stamps, and acetate ... So quick to fold and put together with no adhesive needed.
Chevron printed paper gift bags and beautiful Bermuda Bay taffeta ribbon.
These two are made with a new stamp set that will support Ronald McDonald house charities.
I like this get well soon stamp in these bright colours.
A close up of the trendy chevron paper bags.
Here they are all clustered together - a productive couple of hours. Would you like to come and see them close up and try out some new tools and product at my annual catalogue launch on 5 July at 7 pm in Narara? You can choose a gift if you bring a friend that I haven't met before.

Trending now ... This and That Journal books

This is the most on trend thing to do in the paper craft world at the moment ... it is kind of like speed scrapbooking! More like how we used to scrapbook as a kid. Mine were usually pictures from magezines of animals: horses, dogs, cats, feathers, very bad poetry, drawings and the ocasional movie ticket.
We all have busy lives and we want to keep a record of our thoughts, our likes, our friends and events that mean something to us. These journals, smash books (call them what you will) are a place to record your thoughts for your self or as a gift for others.
This beautiful journal was created by Juliana Main which she generously shared with us at convention.
I am seeing these at stationary shops and art boutique stores ... so they must be on trend!
As you can see from these photos the papers of the journal are already patterned and all you need to do is collect this and that, and stick them on to a page using tape and stickers.
Add a date, a place name, who was there, add what you like, what inspires you, business cards, post cards, photos, colour swatches, fabric samples...
Wouldn't it be perfect as a pregnancy journal, a baby book, a grandmas brag book, wedding planner, holiday or travel journal, or favourite recipes and places book? Maybe your bucket list?
The stampin' Up! Epic Day journal bundle comes with lots of stickers, washi tape, patterned paper, a date stamp, everything to record and display your passions. And in stampin' Up! style everything coordinates.
Shelli's grandchildren sent her these cards and she tucked them in to sleaves to make pockets. Or you could add envelops for hidden journalling what ever you want to make your book unique.
I can't wait to start mine for 2013.
I guess I have a few photos and mementos I'd like to record for 2013 so far.
Do you want to start your own too? Give me a call and we can work on them together.
Here is a link to a video clip showing how easy they are to create with:
This is the front cover of my first journal that I'm starting today -

My Convention swap cards

This year I only made ten cards to swap at Convention. With 700 women who are potential friends to swap with I swapped mostly with people I know. I used a design I'd come up with using my favourite technique at the moment called thumping with markers.
No two of my cards ever turn out the same especially with the thumping marker technique, I love how the colours flicker on the Swallowtail butterfly stamp.
Then I stepped it up by creating a 3D effect with layering a second butterfly wing on top. Time consuming but worth it! Really love these colours together: Elegant eggplant, Island Indigo and Gumball Green with a touch of Wisteria Wonder.
Here are some of the swap cards I received - I am so pleased to share these with you. I always enjoy the personal touch stampers have when they share how they made their card and what they feel about it.
Karen Pinkerton - How gorgeous is this red glimmer paper dress contrasting with the black Stippled blossoms? And the scallopped edgelit behind is just a lovely touch.
Michelle Walker - I love the Everything Eleanor blossoms in Soft Suede against the patterned Poetry paper. And the sentiment is also one of my favourites.
Vanessa Webb has created a hybrid card using My digital studio - Isnt it professional and effective?
And on the other side is the handmade hand stamped tag with a bottle top embellishment.
I might prefer the handmade side, but if you were making invitations or thank you cards in large numbers the My digital studio is definitely a contender ... I am going to try these out, perhaps for business cards and Thank you cards!
Tanya Mulhall - using Secret Garden and the Curly label punches works so well with the delicate lace design at the bottom, so pretty!
Michelle Johnstone silver heat embossed her swallowtail and used a Designer builder brad from page 12 of the Season Catalogue. (retires on 30 June!!!)
Anne Farrar shared this great colour chart showing the different effects you can get with two step stamping the Stipple Rose.
Cheere Robinson - Take a close look the Lattice die cut in Timeless Portrait Fabric. This really looks stunnning against the Pretty in Pink Cardstock. (The fabric and Pretty in Pink are retiring at the end of June).
More to show you tomorrow!

Brisbane convention continues part 5

We had a truly amazing time at the Stampin' Up! Convention in Brisbane.
Here is another photo of my roomies all dressed up for the awards night (on the red carpet no less).
Friday night was the Awards night... well frankly, I was already a little tired and emotional  by the time the awards were over and I was ready to go home - yet it was not to be!
On to dessert, dancing and partying in the hall of the Convention Centre.
We had macarons - my favourite!
And a photo booth!!!
We all crowded in several times and you can imagine the outcome of that:
I really have to work on my pouty face... my smile lines ache.
Seeing as how infrequently one gets to stay in a penthouse suite I thought I'd indulge you with a few more photos:
The Kitchen
Our marble twin sinked, spa bath room...
One of three wrap around decks ...
The roomies making themselves at home -
Our lounge room with views over Brissy river -
We enjoyed every moment including the last announcement: that next year's convention will be in Melbourne from 22-24 May 2014. Who will join me next year?
I can't promise a free upgrade on our accomodation but you will not be disappointed...
Two more photos ... you're nearly done.
After Convention we stopped for Chocolate fudge, strawberries and icecream .... mmmm!
My last one is a really nice picture of my Team mates Linda and Genevra (from Melbourne).

Brisbane Convention part 4

At Convention, everyday was a new and exciting whirlwind of ideas and new products to see. These projects were demonstrated up on stage by Donna Griffith.
You can see a few new colours and products sneak peeking here.
After lunch on day 2, we found time to mingle with friends and start on our make and takes ... I have yet to finish mine. So I have taken a few pics of the finished projects on the display boards.
"Hello Lovely" Card and envelope: (nice new buttons and washi tape).
Gorgeous new acetate boxes with cardstock feathers, ribbon and new stamps. Big enough I think to hold about 8 (or maybe more) Ferero Rochers... I am thinking.
" You make me Happy" Chevron printed paper bags containing note cards.

And of course these are just some of Shelli's projects on display:
Woudn't this post card make a great gift ... or launch project ... hmmm!
Getting all arty on watercolour paper with a new framelit set -
Shelli's Life is Good Smash book for 2013 -
Some gold embossing and dictionary page background stamping and a new flower punch -
A decorated jar to hold chocolate bullets in -
Another gorgeous background stamp with stamped butterflies and squashed flower -
oh my, I think the retirement list comes out today ... come back and see some more convention photos and Stampin' Up! news tomorrow.
